Annual Meeting of ReCOMed in Messinia

The annual meeting of ReCOMed – Mediterranean Olive Oil Cities Network was successfully realized in Messinia, with the participation of 12 countries.

 
The works were attended by members of the network from Italy, Turkey, Lebanon, Israel, Tunisia, Albania, Portugal, Morocco, Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro.
Greece is represented in the RECOMED network by the Cultural Foundation “Routes of the Olive Tree” and the Messinian Chamber, founding member.
The agenda of the 1st day included, among others, workshops and presentations on issues of common interest, such the participation in important international events like the “Expo 2015” in Milan and the “Mediterranean Diet Forum 2014” in Imperia.
On the 2nd day, the meeting was held in Koroni at “Maniatakeion Foundation”, a very active organization for inscription of the Mediterranean Diet on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List of Humanity and the recognition of Koroni as an emblematic community of the Mediterranean Diet. The Cultural Foundation “Routes of the Olive Tree”, which has participated in previous meetings of the Network, was in charge of organizing this year meeting and made sure that this important event was equal to previous sessions held in Italy, Spain, Turkey, Morocco etc.

Council of Europe Cultural Routes Summer Seminar 2014

The Cultural Foundation «Routes of the Olive Tree» took part in the Council of Europe Cultural Routes Summer Seminar 2014, from 12th to 16th June in Santiago de Compostela, Spain (Cidade da Cultura Monte Gaiás).

The Cultural Foundation “Routes of the Olive Tree” was represented by the member of its scientific committee Mrs. Françoise Tondre,a former executive at the Council of Europe and an expert on European and international matters.

The agenda of the Seminar included issues of general and specific interest to the Cultural Routes, such as:

Institutional framework: Enlarged Partial Agreement on the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe / Organization of activities in cooperation with the Council of Europe and other European bodies.

The “Routes of the Olive Tree” and other certified routes presented the recent activities carried out through their networks and proved how these activities contribute to the success of the itinerary and conform to the certification criteria: network management, synergies on research and development, protection of Europe’s history and cultural patrimony, cultural tourism and sustainable development.

During the 2nd part of the seminar, scientific collaborators of the Council of Europe presented best practices, guidelines for designing an itinerary, valorization of cultural patrimony and creation of a partners’ network for the development of an itinerary.

Council of Europe Cultural Routes 2014 – 2024 – Quo Vadis?

The Forum is an annual opportunity to present the state-of-play in the activities of Cultural routes and explore topical subjects connected to their program of activities through thematic presentations focusing on exchanges and debates. The Cultural Foundation “Routes of the olive tree” was represented at the Forum by Mrs. Marinella Katsilieri, responsible of the Cultural Program & Network, and Mrs. Françoise Tondre, member of the Scientific Committee, who were asked to contribute on the future of cultural routes and the new orientations.
Many European personalities attended the Forum: Mr. Herwig Van Staa, President of the Regional Parliament of Tyrol; Mr. Martin Eichtinger, General Director for cultural policies, Minister of European and International affairs of Austria; Mrs. Elisabeth Udolf-Strob, General Director of Tourism and historical objects, Ministry of Finance, Family and Youth of Austria; Mr. Philippe-Denis Fee, Minister of Culture and Communication of France; Mr. Guy Dockendorf, Minister of Culture of Luxembourg, President of the European Institute of Cultural Routes (IEIC); Mr. Werner von Trutzschler, representative of ICOMOS etc.  
European Union and the Council of Europe were represented at the forum by Mrs. Penelope Denu, Executive Secretary of APE, Director, European Institute of cultural routes; Mrs. Elke Atzler, President of the Direction Committee of APE; Mrs. Luisella Pavan-Woolfe, Ambassador, Head of the European Union Delegation at the Council of Europe; Mr. Eric Phliillart, Unity for Tourism and Cultural Instruments, DG Enterprises and Industry, European Commission.

The program of the Forum included 5 Round Tables for the participants-representatives of Cultural Routes, the EU officers and the general public, during which the speakers and representatives of cultural routes examined issues concerning the future of cultural routes and future expectations. More precisely, they examined the added value for the countries joining the Program of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, the means to optimize dialogue and cooperation, as well as cooperation between APE and other programs of activities of the Council of Europe, Experiences and best practices of the member countries of the Expanded Partial Agreement. 
 
The Cultural Foundation « Routes of the Olive Tree» took active part in all the works and presented its field experience and its suggestions on cultural tourism.
More precisely, Mrs. Marinella Katsilieri, responsible of the Cultural Program & the Network of the Cultural Foundation « Routes of the Olive Tree » spoke at the Round Table under the theme « Tourism & Culture » and presented the example of the «cultural routes ‘Olive Tree Routes’: networking as a tool for the creation of touristic products, promotion of destination ‘Europe’ and commitments about responsible tourism.

The theme drew the attention of the experts and participants and was presented in plenary session, as an excellent example of best practice to follow.

6th MEDITERRANEAN DAYS OF THE OLIVE TREE IN MOROCCO!

The Cultural Foundation «The Routes of the Olive Tree»  participated for 6th consecutive year in the event « Mediterranean Days of the Olive Tree» and the Meeting of the Network of the Olive Oil Producing Countries in the Mediterranean (Re.Co.Med), which was successfully realized in the city of Meknès in Morocco (February 26th-28th & March 1st 2013) 

For another year the « Routes of the Olive Tree » participated in the «Mediterranean Days of the Olive Tree», a major event which gathers every year all the olive oil producing countries of the Mediterranean around the same table.

The Cultural Foundation was represented by the Vice President of the CE Mrs. Marinella Katsilieri, who, in the framework of the International Congress under the title«Quality, Health and Mediterranean Diet: at the heart of Competitivity, Marketing and Strategies Commercialization of Olive Oil», presented the promotional strategies for Greek olive oil in the foreign markets.  Approximately 30 representatives from the Mediterranean countries participated in the Congress, which was organised by the National Agricultural University- Agro-pole Olivier – of Morocco and the International University of Andalusia in Spain.

The National Agricultural University- Agro-pole Olivier- of Morocco is among the most dynamic members of the Euromediterranean network the Routes of the Olive Tree and the Cultural Foundation « The Routes of the Olive Tree » has an active part in it, both as a co organizer and a promoter of the annual events.

On the occasion of this event, on February 26th 2013 was held the Meeting of the Olive Oil Producing Countries of the Mediterranean (Re.Co.Med), with the participation of all the Mediterranean olive oil producing countries. The Cultural Foundation «The Routes of the Olive Tree» is a founding member of the network and its official representative for Greece. During the meeting, the Cultural Foundation «the Routes of the Olive Tree» was represented by its delegate Mrs. Margarita Boviccelli, who took part in the works.
This double participation has a multilevel importance, considering that the Cultural Foundation «The Routes of the Olive Tree» was the only Greek actor to participate in the 2 important Mediterranean meetings that aimed at dissemination and promotion of intercultural dialogue among the Mediterranean countries.

MEDITERRANEAN DIET AND OLIVE GROVE LANDSCAPE

The Foundation « The Routes of the Olive Tree » participated to the International Forum « Dieta Mediterranea » that took place at Imperia Chamber of Commerce, from 15th to 17th November 2012, in Italy.

Among this meeting objectives: to take actions in favor of Olive grove landscape preservation and the feedback about « Mediterranean Diet » valorization path. Since one year and a half from the first session (on May 6-7, 2011) and two year since UNESCO recognition  to the « Mediterranean Diet » , the International Forum brings together, for its second edition, delegates from 14 Mediterranean countries, merged into « Re.C.O.Med. » (Mediterranean Olive Oil Cities Network), born in Imperia last 17 November, 2011.
 
Culture, landscape and territory but also tourism and employment…
Mediterranean Diet, UNESCO label and intangible heritage, Mediterranean Olive Grove landscape, whose ReCOMed is carrying on the recognition path to UNESCO, are the focal issues discussed during the 3 days of 2012 Forum. Also, on Friday November 16, ReCOMed held its third Board of Directors, to the presence of delegates from Croatia, Morocco, Spain and Turkey, beyond Italy with President Enrico Lupi. The meeting was exceptionally enlarged for this occasion to the other present countries: Albania, Greece, Israel, Slovenia, Tunisia and Lebanon. Lebanon joined the network as thirteenth country just during the current Board of Directors session.

The Foundation “The Routes of the Olive Tree” , which counts, for many years now, among its network Italian members, the National Association of Oil producing Towns of Italy  “Città dell’Olio”, is the official representant of Greece within ReCOMed network, and is involved from the start in the ReCOMed process .
 
She participates to reflect about promotion of the common Olive cultural heritage and local tourism enhanced through this tree and its products. To reflect also on recent data showing an increasing defection from olive grove areas with worrying repercussions on hydro geological soils ‘shape, on the whole ecosystem but above all on local agricultural economy and on historical recollection belonging to centuries-old olive trees.

International Cultural Heritage Exhibition 2012 in Paris

The « Routes of the Olive Tree » participated for the second time in this important International Exhibition, which every year attracts culture and tourism professionals from all over the world as well as many local visitors.

At the invitation of the European Institute of Cultural Routes and in the framework of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes between the European Committee and the Council of Europe , the « Routes of the Olive Tree » took part in the event, which this year was dedicated to cultural ecological heritage.

 

Visitors were impressed with the presentation of the « Routes of the Olive Tree » at the stand of the Council of Europe. This Euromediterranean project was promoted through various information materials and modern communication tools, including brochures, posters, promotion videos and an interactive cabin, where people had the opportunity to discover the itineraries in a realistic way.
The « Routes of the Olive Tree » also stood out by offering olive products, among which Kalamata olives, olive paste and Messinian olive oil made an impression!

The “Routes of the Olive Tree” at “Crossroads of Europe”

2012-05-21The cultural itineraries « The Route of the Olive Tree » will participed to the international Fair « Crossroads of Europe », at the initiative of European Commission.

The European Commission is organising – in cooperation with the City of Pavia, in Italy – the first edition of theAnnual Fair on cultural tourism “Crossroads of Europe”. The focus for this first year is on Cultural and religious routes, with a new and different approach, morebusiness oriented.

The ‘Routes of the OliveTree’, as cultural and touristic itineraries, will be presented within a dedicated info session from 11:00 till 13:00 on Friday 8 June 2012, that will provide a strong appeal for the Tour operators and Media, at both European and international level, maybe using some good images of your itinerary.

The event will take place in Pavia (Italy) from 6 to 10 June 2012.

1st Administrative Board for Re.C.O.M.ed

A few days after the Italian delegation of the project visited the headquarters of the Cultural Foundation « The Olive Tree Routes », the 1st Administrative Board of Re.C.O.M.ed met in Meknès, Morocco, at the initiative of the city’s mayor Mr. Ahmed HILAL and the director of Agro-Pôle Olivier , Mr. Noureddine OUAZZANI.
During this meeting the programme and the starting date of activities for 2012 were set, as well as the base for the network’s communication strategy.

Re.C.O .M.ed was created on November 19 2011 in Impéria, on the occasion of the International Forum « Dieta Mediterranea ».

This network is the result of a long term process, involving from the start the Foundation “The Routes of the Olive Tree”.
It proves the shared desire to profit from the Mediterranean dynamics of both cultural and economic life for the promotion of olive tree products and heritage, in consultation with all Mediterranean countries and the implementation of concrete transnational projects aimed at stakeholders of olive growing regions. It is a very important step towards the recognition and marketing of these territories, often facing difficulties, and of their expertise.

 

The Foundation at the International Heritage Show

From November 4 to November 7, 2010, the Cultural Foundation « Routes of the Olive Tree » participated in the 16th edition of the International Heritage Show in Paris.

This year’s Show was dedicated to the Mediterranean Heritage and highlighted the synergies between actions developed by the leading actors of this heritage.

The Cultural Foundation was invited by the European Institute of Cultural Routes , which implements the programme of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, the body that recognised the network « the Routes of the Olive Tree» as a « Great European Cultural Route » in 2006. This year the Foundation presented an information stand on its activities and proposed tasting of products from the olive oil producing region that it crosses.

On the occasion, the Foundation had the pleasure to welcome, among others, the French ministers of Tourism and Culture, Herve Novelli and Frederic Mitterrand.

Study on the impact of cultural Routes on the SMEs

On Monday 10 November, at the Palace of Europe in Strasbourg, the Foundation «The Routes of the Olive Tree » gave a speech in the framework of a reunion for the « Study on the impact of the European Cultural Routes on Small and Medium Enterprises, innovation and competitiveness».

This study, undertaken in cooperation with the Council of Europe and the European Commission, aims at examining the existing and potential advantages for the SMEs of transnational initiatives of cultural tourism, like the European Cultural Routes, that include the network « the Olive Tree Routes ».
Many experts and representatives of European Routes, the European Institute of Cultural Routes (responsible for setting up the programme of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe) and European Cultural Routes came together to identify a common analyse strategy.
The Cultural Foundation « the Routes of the Olive Tree » took the opportunity to remind its experience in implicating and collaborating with SMEs in cultural destinations around the theme of the olive tree civilisation, as well as the valuable presence of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce, which have supported its initiatives since the beginning.
